        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           MARCH 11, 2003

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Designating March 20, 2003, as "Mister Rogers' Day" throughout
     2     his Pennsylvania neighborhood.

     3     WHEREAS, Fred Rogers, beloved host of "Mister Rogers'
     4  Neighborhood," would have celebrated his 75th birthday on March
     5  20, 2003; and
     6     WHEREAS, During a life of service to children and the
     7  community, Mister Rogers gently led by example, pioneering and
     8  advancing the standard for television's ability to educate
     9  children and cultivate the importance of kindness, compassion
    10  and learning; and

     1     WHEREAS, Mister Rogers' innumerable accolades include the
     2  Television Hall of Fame, two Peabody Awards, four Emmys, a
     3  Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Academy of
     4  Television Arts and Sciences and the Presidential Medal of
     5  Freedom; therefore be it
     6     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate March
     7  20, 2003, as "Mister Rogers' Day" to honor Pennsylvania's best
     8  neighbor.
