INTRODUCED BY COWELL, IRVIS, CESSAR, MRKONIC, RYBAK, WARGO, MARMION, HORGOS, DAWIDA, SEVENTY, PENDLETON, GAMBLE, GRABOWSKI, POTT, RASCO, ITKIN AND WAMBACH, JUNE 16, 1981
REFERRED TO COMMITTEE ON RULES, JUNE 16, 1981
In the House of Representatives, June 16, 1981 1 Every two years the United Nation's designates An 2 International Year on behalf of a particular group in order to 3 draw worldwide attention to the group so as to enhance their 4 dignity, human rights and well-being. 5 The year 1981 is the International Year of Disabled Persons. 6 While America already is recognized for its world leadership 7 in providing opportunity for disabled persons, much remains to 8 be done. The year will involve the active participation of 9 citizens at the local level to help increase opportunities for 10 disabled persons. There seems to be real concern by Americans in 11 all sectors of society that disabled people must be brought more 12 into the mainstream of life. This can be better understood when 13 one realizes that significant physical or mental disabilities 14 affect l5,000,000 Americans, and have direct financial, 15 emotional and social impact on another 50,000,000 family members 16 with whom they live; therefore be it 17 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the
1 Commonwealth of Pennsylvania urges all of the citizens of 2 Pennsylvania to contact their community's chief elected official 3 to learn how they can participate in the International Year of 4 Disabled Persons; and be it further 5 RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the 6 Honorable Leonard C. Staisey, Chairman, Allegheny County Council 7 of the International Year of Disabled Persons. E27L81RAW/19810H0084R1958 - 2 -
