        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           FEBRUARY 13, 2007

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Designating the week of March 5 through 11, 2007, as "Multiple
     2     Sclerosis Awareness Week" in Pennsylvania.

     3     WHEREAS, Multiple sclerosis is a neurological disease of the
     4  central nervous system affecting an estimated 400,000 Americans;
     5  and
     6     WHEREAS, Nearly 200 new cases of multiple sclerosis are
     7  diagnosed each week nationwide; and
     8     WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania Chapters of the National Multiple
     9  Sclerosis Society report that in this State more than 19,000
    10  people are affected by this devastating disease; and
    11     WHEREAS, Multiple sclerosis generally strikes young adults

     1  between 20 and 40 years of age, attacking them in the prime of
     2  life; and
     3     WHEREAS, Persons with multiple sclerosis may experience
     4  tremendous suffering and pain and even paralysis; and
     5     WHEREAS, The cause and cure for multiple sclerosis remain
     6  unknown; and
     7     WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania Chapters of the National Multiple
     8  Sclerosis Society have been committed throughout the years to
     9  heightening public knowledge and insight about multiple
    10  sclerosis and are currently planning several major Statewide
    11  fundraisers and educational programs to raise awareness; and
    12     WHEREAS, Finding the cause and developing a method of
    13  prevention for multiple sclerosis are important goals all
    14  Americans and Pennsylvanians should support; therefore be it
    15     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the
    16  week of March 5 through 11, 2007, as "Multiple Sclerosis
    17  Awareness Week" in Pennsylvania and encourage the citizens of
    18  this great State to join in the fight to end this devastating
    19  disease; and be it further
    20     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives express its
    21  appreciation and admiration for the major work of the National
    22  Multiple Sclerosis Society over the years in heightening public
    23  knowledge and insight about multiple sclerosis.
