        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           JANUARY 27, 2003

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Declaring the week of January 26 through February 1, 2003, as
     2     "Catholic Schools Week" in this Commonwealth.

     3     WHEREAS, Catholic schools in this Commonwealth are
     4  celebrating "Catholic Schools Week" from January 26 through
     5  February 1, 2003; and
     6     WHEREAS, Catholic elementary and secondary schools, educating
     7  approximately 205,000 students annually, save State and local
     8  taxpayers more than $1 billion each year; and
     9     WHEREAS, Catholic schools instill in young people a strong
    10  foundation of values, self-esteem, self-confidence and
    11  leadership skills; and
    12     WHEREAS, Catholic schools, in providing young people with

     1  solid values and academic skills needed in becoming responsible
     2  citizens of this Commonwealth and nation, have a dropout rate of
     3  less than 3% and a postgraduate higher education enrollment rate
     4  of 80%; therefore be it
     5     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives declare the week
     6  of January 26 through February 1, 2003, as "Catholic Schools
     7  Week" in this Commonwealth and express congratulations and
     8  appreciation to Catholic elementary and secondary schools across
     9  this Commonwealth on the occasion of "Catholic Schools Week" in
    10  2003.
