6Section 2. The Sergeant Michael Todd May, Monongalia County
7Sheriff's Department, West Virginia, Interchange.

8(a) Findings.--The General Assembly finds and declares as
9follows:

10(1) Sgt. Michael Todd May, a ten-year veteran of the 
11Monongalia County Sheriff's Department, was killed in the 
12line of duty in the early hours of Saturday, February 18, 
132012.

14(2) Sgt. May was killed while involved in a vehicle
15pursuit that had crossed over the West Virginia/Pennsylvania
16State line.

17(3) The driver of the vehicle rammed Sgt. May's patrol
18car as he waited in the median for the pursuit to reach his
19location.

20(4) The driver was convicted of third degree murder,
21homicide by vehicle, homicide by vehicle while driving under
22the influence and multiple other counts.

23(5) Sgt. May was born in Morgantown, West Virginia, on 
24April 2, 1970.

25(6) Sgt. May was a 1988 graduate of Morgantown High
26School and attended Fairmont State University, where he
27pursued a degree in criminal justice.

28(7) After college, Sgt. May graduated from the West
29Virginia State Police Academy.

30(8) Sgt. May was employed for a short time with the
31Berkeley County Sheriff's Department and then began his
32career with the Monongalia County Sheriff's Department, where
33he was a lead on the SWAT team.

34(9) Sgt. May also worked at the Eastern Regional
35Corrections Facility and was a member of the Tau Kappa
36Epsilon fraternity.

37(10) Moreover, Sgt. May served as president of the

1Monongalia County Sheriff's Association.

2(11) Sgt. May is survived by his wife, Renee; his
3parents, Franklin and Catherine May; his brother, Frankie
4May; his niece and nephew, Canon and Bryiar May; his aunts
5and uncles; and several cousins.

6(b) Designation.--The interchange of Interstate 79 at Mount
7Morris in Greene County is hereby designated the Sgt. Michael
8Todd May, Monongalia County Sheriff's Department, West Virginia,
9Interchange.

10(c) Signs.--The Department of Transportation shall install,
11where it deems feasible, the appropriate markers designating
12this interchange as the Sgt. Michael Todd May, Monongalia County

13Sheriff's Department, West Virginia, Interchange.
