Senate of Pennsylvania
Session of 2023 - 2024 Regular Session

MEMORANDUM

Posted: December 22, 2022 03:22 PM
From: Senator Judy Ward and Sen. Devlin J. Robinson
To: All Senate members
Subject: Pension Enhancement for Blind, Amputee and Paralyzed Veterans

We are reintroducing Senate Bill 150 of last session, which increases the monthly pension amounts for the Blind Veterans Pension Program and the Amputee and Paralyzed Veterans Pension Program.

Under current law, Pennsylvania veterans who suffered service-connected injuries or diseases that resulted in loss of vision, paralysis or the loss of two or more extremities are eligible to receive a pension of $150 per month. Our bill would increase this pension payment to $180 per month for both programs.

Unfortunately, these two vital veterans’ pension programs have not received any increase since 1999. We believe a modest increase of $30 per month is the least we can do for our veterans who have served and sacrificed for our country.

As of November 17, 2022, the Blind Veterans Pension Program benefited 100 individuals, while the Amputee and Paralyzed Veterans Pension Program served 2,162 individuals.

Co-sponsors of Senate Bill 150 were Senators Robinson, Baker, Hutchinson and Schwank.
