Subject: A Resolution designating April 2022 as "Jazz Appreciation Month" in Pennsylvania
 
In the near future, I plan to introduce a resolution to designate April 2022 as “Jazz Appreciation Month” in Pennsylvania.
 
Jazz Appreciation Month, or JAM, was created in 2002 at the Smithsonian Museum to herald and celebrate the extraordinary heritage and history of jazz. JAM is intended to excite and encourage people of all ages to participate in jazz - to study the music, attend concerts, listen to jazz on radio and recordings, read books about jazz, and more. This year, Jazz Appreciation Month will be exploring the crosspollination of Afro-Caribbean music and jazz leading into the formation of Latin jazz. One of the iconic figures recognized in the Afro-Caribbean music tradition was bassist, bandleader, composer, and co-creator of mambo Israel “Cachao” López. 
 
Please join me in recognizing this year’s featured artist, Israel “Cachao” Lopez by designating April as “Jazz Appreciation Month” in Pennsylvania.
