| Subject: | Cosmetology and Barber Training Programs |
| In the near future, I plan to introduce a package of two bills to allow cosmetology and barber students greater training and career opportunities. My legislation will allow cosmetology and barber high school students enrolled in Career and Technology Centers (CTC) the ability to participate in career training programs in addition to their CTC coursework and training. The program is modeled after successful pilot program the State Board of Cosmetology and State Board of Barbering recently completed with the CTCs. It allows students to earn credit and experience by working outside the school setting in local salons and barber shops. In order to qualify, the student must be supervised by a licensed cosmetologist or barber and inform the client that they are a student. This is a great opportunity for students, the CTCs and salon and barber shop owners. Students gain practical knowledge in a real salon or shop setting; CTCs enhance their partnerships with local businesses; and salons and barber shop owners find and train perspective employees.
