Senate of Pennsylvania
Session of 2021 - 2022 Regular Session

MEMORANDUM

Posted: September 28, 2021 09:37 AM
From: Senator Wayne D. Fontana
To: All Senate members
Subject: Public Hearing on Intergovernmental Operations Subpoena

Without any form of public input, on September 15, 2021, the Senate Intergovernmental Operations Committee voted 7-4 to subpoena the voting records and personal information of commonwealth residents from the Pennsylvania Department of State.  While the subpoena sought information on all registered voters, the members of the committee only represent approximately 13% of the total registered voters in the commonwealth.

Believing that all Pennsylvania registered voters who want testify on something that impacts them, I will soon be introducing a Resolution that urges the Senate Intergovernmental Operations Committee to withdraw and rescind the subpoena that requested this information and to schedule a hearing for the purposes seeking public testimony and comment.  Furthermore, the Resolution would request that the Senate reconvenes as a Committee of the Whole in open session to conduct a public debate on subpoenaing the personal information of Pennsylvania registered voters.

I feel that my Resolution would allow the members of the Senate the ability to give their constituents a voice on a matter that directly affects them.

Introduced as SR190
