Subject: | Resolution to Remember the Korean War |
In the near future, I will offer a Resolution designating July 1st as a day for Pennsylvania to recognize the beginning of U.S involvement in the Korean War. It was on that day that the first U.S ground combat troops (Army 1st Battalion, 21st Infantry, 24th Infantry Division) arrived in Korea. The war began when Communist forces from North Korea invaded the Democratic free Republic of Korea. It soon culminated into one of the bloodiest conflicts involving the US and its allies in the post-World War II era. The casualties from this war exceeded five million, nearly half of which were civilians. I offer this Resolution to remember our fellow Pennsylvanians who served in the Korean War which resulted in nearly 40,000 deaths and more than 100,000 wounded Americans. Their sacrifice helped to establish America's global presence and commitment to promoting a free world. Often overshadowed by World War II and the Vietnam War, the Korean Conflict is known to many as the “Forgotten War”. I submit for the historically lessons learned, it is war we must remember. I hope you will join me in co-sponsoring this legislation. |
