Subject: Revisions to Water Activity for Child Care Centers
 
In the near future, I intend to introduce legislation that would amend the Child Day Care Centers provision of the Human Services Code. A change is needed to no longer require child care facilities to supply their own lifeguard where a facility already has on duty lifeguards.

This duplicative policy is burdening child care centers in my district who are struggling to obtain lifeguard certifications. Last summer, COVID-19 caused many children to not be able to socialize and exercise with their day care centers. 

There are providers who wish to take their children to facilities that provide water activity. However, this current policy is not able to be met because of the limited number of classes being offered to certify lifeguards. Furthermore, these facilities already have certified lifeguards on staff supervising all swimmers.

Please join me in making swimming more accessible for children this summer.
