Subject: | Updating the Cremation Law |
In the near future, I plan to introduce legislation that will establish in statute a minimum temperature for cremations at 1600 degrees. Currently, the minimum temperature for cremating human remains is established under the Department of Environmental Protection at 1800 degrees. Last year, New York reduced their cremation temperature to 1600 degrees, well within the respected and well-studied temperature window of 1400-1800 degrees. This will reduce the costs for crematory operators and reduce the environmental emissions that these crematories dispense. This legislation will also modernize and properly define the language of the Cremation guidelines that date back to 1891. Please join me in co-sponsoring this important and overdue legislation. |
