Subject: Designating May 19th, 2020 as Emergency Medical Service (EMS) for Children Day
 
In the near future, we will be introducing a resolution to designate May 19th, 2021 as Emergency Medical Service (EMS) for Children Day. 

EMS for Children is a national program working in communities throughout the country to improve the quality of pediatric medical care, with the goal of reducing childhood morbidity and mortality. This federal initiative is in response to the fact that more than 30 million children receive emergency medical care each year due to illness or injury and that the physiological, developmental and psychological needs of a child are different than those of an adult during a medical emergency.
 
This program helps states and communities prepare for medical and traumatic emergencies involving a child by providing training to emergency response and care personnel, by ensuring that ambulances and emergency departments have access to child-appropriate equipment, and by standardizing well-defined pediatric treatment protocols and procedures.
 
EMS for Children works closely with the EMS community, as well as with physicians and nurses who provide pediatric emergency care, to help states and communities reduce child and youth disability and death due to severe illness or trauma.
 
Please join us in honoring the work of the EMS for Children program, the EMS community and the more than 25 professional organizations which partner to improve the quality of emergency care our children receive.
