| Subject: | Condolence Resolution for Coach Marty Schottenheimer |
| We plan to introduce a condolence resolution honoring the life and successes of Pennsylvania’s Marty Schottenheimer, who passed away February 8, 2021 at the age of 77. He was born in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, Washington County, on September 23, 1943 and served as a head coach in the National Football League from 1984 to 2006. Marty Schottenheimer attended and played college football for the University of Pittsburgh from 1962-1964 before being drafted by the American Football League’s Buffalo Bills. He ultimately played for the Boston Patriots and the Pittsburgh Steelers as well before retiring as an athlete. After a few years away from football and then several as a linebackers coach and defensive coordinator for several teams, Schottenheimer replaced Sam Rutigliano as the Cleveland Browns head coach in the middle of the 1984 season. Coach Schottenheimer’s 1984 takeover officially started his decades long career as a head coach for the Browns (1984-1988), the Kansas City Chiefs (1989-1998), the Washington Redskins (2001) and the San Diego Chargers (2002-2006). Ultimately it is said that he turned around the programs for the Browns, Chiefs and Chargers and his total wins as a head coach during the regular season ranks seventh overall at 200. He is ranked eighth overall in terms of career wins (which includes playoff victories) at 205. Marty Schottenheimer was married to his wife, Pat, and had two children: Kristen and Brian. Brian currently is the passing game coordinator for the Jacksonville Jaguars.
