Subject: | Designating March 2021 as Problem Gambling Awareness Month in Pennsylvania |
In the near future, we intend to introduce a resolution designating March 2021 as “Problem Gambling Awareness Month” in Pennsylvania. While the majority of individuals are able to responsibly enjoy gambling as a form of entertainment, between 6 and 9 million people across the U.S. suffer from problem gambling. This disease is a public health issue that affects people from all backgrounds, races and ages and can impose significant hardships on communities. The good news is that problem gambling is treatable, and numerous nonprofits, professionals and government offices are dedicated to assisting problem gamblers with regaining control over their lives. The resolution is part of both a statewide and a nationwide campaign during the month of March by the National Council on Problem Gambling to bring awareness to the disease and the many treatment programs that are available to help people. We hope that you will join us in cosponsoring this resolution. |
