Subject: | Children’s Grief Awareness Day Resolution |
I recently received a letter from a young constituent of the 50th Senatorial District, Mayland Learn, which tugged at my heartstrings. Mayland is eight years old and the USA National Miss Pennsylvania Princess 2021, and is trying to raise grief awareness for children after losing her own father. She’s a very inspired and motivated young lady who has taken an interest in politics. For Mayland, and all other children experiencing the loss of a loved one, I will be introducing a Resolution declaring November 18, 2021 as Children’s Grief Awareness Day in Pennsylvania. This is observed on the Thursday before Thanksgiving, immediately preceding the winter holidays, which can be a particularly difficult time for grieving children. Children’s Grief Awareness Day was started in the Commonwealth by the Highmark Caring Place in 2008 to help others understand the impact of death on children and their need for support. I understand it is only January and may seem a bit early to be circulating a cosponsorship memo for a Resolution in November, but it is my hope that over the next 10 months, I can gather all 50 Senators as cosponsors to this important Resolution. Thank you. |
