Senate of Pennsylvania
Session of 2021 - 2022 Regular Session

MEMORANDUM

Posted: December 3, 2020 04:35 PM
From: Senator Judy Ward
To: All Senate members
Subject: Pension Enhancement: Blind & Amputee and Paralyzed Veterans

I am reintroducing Senate Bill 276 of last session, legislation that would increase the monthly pension amounts for the Blind Veterans Pension Program and the Amputee and Paralyzed Veterans Pension Program.

Under current law, Pennsylvania veterans who suffered service-connected injuries or diseases that resulted in loss of vision, paralysis, or the loss of two or more extremities are eligible to receive a pension of $150 per month. My bill would increase the pension amount from $150 per month to $180 per month for both programs. Unfortunately, these two vital veterans’ pension programs have not received any increase since 1999. I believe a modest increase of $30 per month is the least we can do for our veterans who have served and sacrificed for our country.

As of October 31, 2020, the Blind Veterans Pension Program benefited 103 individuals while the Amputee and Paralyzed Veterans Pension Program served 2,038.

The Senate passed this bill unanimously in the last session.

Please join me in cosponsoring this important legislation to benefit our veterans.

Introduced as SB150
