Subject: | Shared Telephone Contract Opt-Out for Victims of Domestic Violence |
I intend to reintroduce legislation in the near future that would provide victims of domestic violence in Pennsylvania with the ability to alter a shared telephone contract plan if the shared plan is with an individual whom the victim has a protection from abuse (PFA) order against. Specifically, the bill allows a court to grant the transfer of an existing wireless telephone number as well as any numbers of a plaintiff's children in the event the defendant has had a PFA order filed against them by the plaintiff. This legislation is an attempt to safeguard victims from dangerous assailants, protect their health and well-being and even save their lives. I invite you to join me as a co-sponsor. This legislation passed the senate unanimously during the 2017-18 Legislative Session. This is a reintroduction of SB 125 from the previous legislative session. Co-sponsors included: Costa, Hughes, Fontana, Blake, Schwank, Gordner, Browne, Mensch, Brewster, Haywood, Santarsiero, Bartolotta, Killion, Martin, Phillips-Hill and K. Ward. |
