Senate of Pennsylvania
Session of 2019 - 2020 Regular Session

MEMORANDUM

Posted: February 21, 2020 09:34 AM
From: Senator John DiSanto
To: All Senate members
Subject: "Sunshine Week" Resolution

I was pleased to recently be named chair of the Senate State Government Committee and I plan to use this position to help make government more efficient, accessible, and transparent.

With this in mind and as a limited initial first step, I will be introducing a resolution to designate the week of March 15th through the 21st as “Sunshine Week” in Pennsylvania.

The current versions of both the Pennsylvania Sunshine Act and the Pennsylvania Right to Know Law began as Senate bills. The Sunshine Act ensures the public’s right to witness decisions being made on their behalf, with their tax moneys.

Likewise, the Right to Know Law requires state and local government agencies to make public records accessible by establishing a presumption that records be made public and placing the burden of proof on an agency to show why a requested record should not be made public.

I hope you will join with me in sponsoring this resolution to designate the 2020 “Sunshine Week.”
