MEMORANDUM

Posted: January 21, 2020 06:13 PM
From: Senator Patrick M. Browne and Sen. Steven J. Santarsiero
To: All Senate members
Subject: Resolution recognizing February 24 through March 1, 2020 as National Eating Disorders Awareness Week.

We will be introducing a resolution recognizing February 24 through March 1, 2020 as National Eating Disorders Awareness Week.

The National Eating Disorders Association’s (NEDA’s) National Eating Disorders Awareness Week is the largest and best known eating disorders outreach effort in the country. In 2019, NEDAwareness Week encouraged individuals to Come As You Are, highlighting NEDA’s movement towards inclusitivity in the greater eating disorder community and unifying the field. In particular, Come as You Are was intended to send a message to individuals at all stages of body acceptance and eating disorders recovery that their stories are valid.

Building off of last year’s success, the theme for this year, Come As You Are: Hindsight is 2020, reflects on the positive steps that individuals have taken – including those stemming from setbacks and challenges – toward accepting themselves and others. In addition, the goal of increasing public awareness in understanding eating disorders and changing the conversation around food, body image and eating disorders is a goal for the week.

Through NEDAwareness Week 2020, NEDA aims to improve the public’s understanding of eating disorders and their causes, dangers and treatments and to empower everyone to reduce risk factors and join prevention efforts.

We hope that you will join us in co-sponsoring this resolution.
