Subject: | Designation of February 7, 2020 as “National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day” in Pennsylvania |
In the near future, I plan on introducing a Resolution designating February 7, 2020 as “National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day” in Pennsylvania. As in years past, a companion resolution will be offered in the House of Representatives by Representative Wheatley. Designation of February 7 as “National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day” started in 2000 to assist efforts to decrease and ultimately eradicate HIV/AIDS in the African-America community. This designation is observed to increase HIV education, testing, community involvement and treatment among black communities. Data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) found that in 2017, blacks/African Americans accounted for 43% of all HIV diagnoses in the United States despite making up 13% of the United States population. Please join me in sponsoring this Resolution to designate February 7, 2020 as “National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day” in the Commonwealth. Please contact my office if you have any questions. |
