Senate of Pennsylvania
Session of 2019 - 2020 Regular Session

MEMORANDUM

Posted: October 25, 2019 04:37 PM
From: Senator Pam Iovino and Sen. Bob Mensch
To: All Senate members
Subject: Resolution Designating November as "Military Family Month" in Pennsylvania

In the near future, we will introduce a resolution designating the month of November as "Military Family Month" in Pennsylvania.

There are over 32,700 Pennsylvanian active duty servicemembers and reservists serving our nation, more than 840,000 veterans residing in our Commonwealth, and according to the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs, over 32,000 children in Pennsylvania who currently have at least one parent serving in either the National Guard, Reserve or an active duty branch of the military.

The servicemember that wears the uniform and swears an oath to defend our Nation is invariably supported by family - spouses, children, parents – that ultimately serve our country as well. The military family member may be the toughest job in the military.

Our military families support their loved ones serving and bear burdens and sacrifices that make it possible for the men and women in uniform to serve. Frequent relocations, single-parent households, careers interrupted or put on hold, and children continually finding themselves in new schools are some of those burdens and sacrifices.

It is more than fitting that we extend our heartfelt gratitude to military families for the support they provide for our servicemembers and ultimately to our country.

We hope you will join us in support of this resolution.
