| Subject: | Resolution Recognizing Veterans Day |
| In the near future, we will introduce a resolution to commemorate Monday, November 11, 2019, as “Veterans Day” in Pennsylvania. Pennsylvania has one of the highest veteran populations in the country, with more than 840,000 veterans calling Pennsylvania home, based on the most recent Census data. As of 2017, veterans made up over 7% of the population in Pennsylvania. Veterans served our country with pride and excellence, whether during peace or war. They return home and use the skills they gained while in service to improve our communities. According to the Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA), veterans have higher workforce participation than nonveterans, and the unemployment rate among veterans has remained lower than among nonveterans for the past five years. Nearly all veterans thrive as members of their community, upholding the values instilled in them during service and inspiring the next generation to lead in their community. For veterans that return home with visible or invisible injuries, we must continue to support them and enable them to live as fully and as independently as possible. Those of us in public service have the duty to serve those who served us in uniform. As veterans with over 53 years of combined military service, we celebrate our fellow veterans and commend them for their service to our country, our Commonwealth, and our communities. Please join us in support of this resolution. |
