Subject: Recognizing the week of October 6th through 19th, 2019, as "National Newspaper Week" in Pennsylvania
 
In the near future, I plan to introduce a resolution recognizing the week of October 6th through 12th, 2019, as “National Newspaper Week” in Pennsylvania.

The Commonwealth holds a special place in history as the birthplace of our great nation’s independence. One of the pillars to this freedom is the right to free speech and a free press. It is with great pride that we recognize and celebrate these rights lest we take them for granted and allow them to become a thing of the past.

While news and media have changed drastically since we gained our freedom, newspapers have survived, and even thrived. It is for this reason that I would like to honor the newspapers that have kept people informed for generations.

I ask that you join me in honoring service that newspapers have offered. If you have any questions regarding this information, please contact Jake Gery in my office at jgery@pasen.gov.
