Subject: | Prohibiting the trapping of bobcats |
In the near future I plan on introducing legislation that would ban the trapping of bobcats (Lynx Rufus) in Pennsylvania. These beautiful animals are commonly trapped in foot snares that break will break bones in their legs and feet. Once caught, it is not uncommon for these traps to go unchecked for days on end, leaving the bobcat to starve to death. Additionally, other states in the Union are actively considering banning the practice. The Colorado Parks and Wildlife officials have identified robust prices for pelts as the motivation for the increase in kills. Bobcat-fur coats made in China and Russia sell for tens of thousands of dollars. Furthermore, this legislation will aim to ban this inhumane practice and allow for these large cats to roam our Commonwealth freely, and not be exploited to sell their pelts overseas. It is my wish that you will join me in sponsoring this legislation. |
