Session of 2019 - 2020 Regular Session

MEMORANDUM

Posted: June 20, 2019 12:25 PM
From: Senator Lawrence M. Farnese, Jr.
To: All Senate members
Subject: Concurrent jurisdiction for animal cruelty

In his recent budget hearing, the Attorney General welcomed the opportunity of concurrent jurisdiction to prosecute animal cruelty cases.

With the passage of Libre’s law, felony level penalties for animal cruelty were enacted which have never before existed. There is a steep learning curve for many law enforcement officers and District Attorneys in understanding how to prosecute these cases. Extending concurrent jurisdiction beyond mere conflict will allow the Attorney General’s office to step in and support our local District Attorneys on these often-complicated cases and provide hands on training. Please support me in protecting our Commonwealth’s most vulnerable citizens and supporting our law enforcement.
