Subject: | PA National Guard Day - June 12 |
On Wednesday, June 12th, the Pennsylvania National Guard will hold its annual "National Guard Day" at the Capitol. We will be introducing a resolution honoring the PA National Guard on this occasion. In 1747, Benjamin Franklin formed the "Associators," the precursor to the PA National Guard. And in 1755, the General Assembly of the Province of Pennsylvania formally enacted its first militia law. The past 264 years have seen much cooperation and support from the General Assembly for the Pennsylvania militia, the Pennsylvania National Guard and the soldiers and airmen who proudly serve this Commonwealth and this nation. Today, Pennsylvania has one of the largest National Guard forces in the nation and our Guard is one of the Commonwealth's top ten employers. On June 12th, the PA Department of Military & Veterans Affairs and the PA National Guard will come to the Capitol to highlight their importance to the Commonwealth through displays in the East Wing Rotunda and a morning presentation for legislators. Adjutant General Anthony Carrelli also plans to address the House and the Senate on the occasion. Please join us in supporting the Pennsylvania National Guard by signing onto this resolution, which is similar to SR 369 of 2018, sponsored by Senators Vulakovich, Costa, Aument, Baker, Bartolotta, Blake, Brewster, Brooks, Browne, Dinniman, Eichelberger, Farnese, Folmer, Fontana, Gordner, Greenleaf, Hughes, Hutchinson, Killion, Mensch, Rafferty, Sabatina, Schwank, Vogel, Wagner, and Yudichak, |
