Subject: | Office for People with Disabilities |
In the near future, I plan to re-introduce legislation, formerly SB 158 of 2017-2018, which would create the Office for People with Disabilities within and to be administered by the Office of the Governor. While this office was established by Executive Order in the past, my legislation would make the office permanent by statute. The Office for People with Disabilities provides essential services for people with disabilities and their families. Through the expertise of its members, the office supports and empowers Pennsylvania’s disabled population by undertaking basic, but necessary, functions, such as identifying gaps and funding deficits in disability services and programs, advocating for increased availability of and access to those services and planning for program improvements statewide. Please join me in sponsoring this legislation and help make sure that the Office of People with Disabilities becomes a permanent fixture in Pennsylvania. In consideration of the great strides the disability community has made in the Commonwealth, it is important this progress continues in the future. Members who co-sponsored this legislation previously include Senators Blake, Brewster, Costa, Rafferty, Hughes, and Street. |
