Senate of Pennsylvania
Session of 2019 - 2020 Regular Session

MEMORANDUM

Posted: February 28, 2019 12:19 PM
From: Senator David G. Argall
To: All Senate members
Subject: Expanding Act 44 School Safety grants to protect private institutions

In the near future, I plan to introduce legislation to amend Act 44 to allow private schools to be eligible for the School Safety and Security Grant Program.

In the wake of recent school shootings, several states have taken steps to strengthen security at public schools. Last session Senate Bill 1142 was signed into law as Act 44 of 2018. It contains several measures that are designed to make schools safer for students and teachers.

The effort to boost school safety has focused primarily on public schools. Many students in the Commonwealth attend private schools. These schools need the same protections that our public schools are provided.

Please consider co-sponsoring this legislation to allow all schools in the Commonwealth to apply for the School Safety and Security Grant Program.

Introduced as SB521
