MEMORANDUM

Posted: January 8, 2019 03:06 PM
From: Senator Michele Brooks
To: All Senate members
Subject: Sales Tax Holiday for Emergency Preparedness Equipment

In the near future, I plan on reintroducing Senate Bill 765 from last session, previously introduced by Senator Vulakovich, which will establish a Sales Tax Holiday for the purchase of emergency preparedness equipment.

This legislation is intended to act as encouragement for the residents of the Commonwealth to purchase equipment necessary to prepare for emergencies. Two weeks in the year 2020, one in March and one in September, would be designated as “sales tax holidays” for emergency preparedness items including, but not limited to, portable generators that cost $3,000 or less, storm protection devices and emergency ladders that cost $300 or less, and other various items that cost $75 or less, such as fire extinguishers, a self-contained first aid kit, and smoke detectors.

This legislation was previously cosponsored by Senators Costa, Fontana, Hutchinson, Killion, Rafferty, Reschenthaler, Stefano, Tartaglione, and Yudichak.

Please join me in cosponsoring this legislation, so our residents may be better prepared to handle any sort of emergency that may arise. Please do not hesitate to contact my office with any questions.

Introduced as SB336
