Subject: | Workers Compensation Coverage for Integral Members of Fire Companies |
In the near future, we will reintroduce Senate Bill 1221, previously sponsored by Sen. Vulakovich and myself, which would ensure workers compensation coverage for all active duty Volunteer Firefighters, Fire Police, officers or directors of a Volunteer Fire Company, and integral members of a volunteer fire company if injured in the performance of their duties. This legislation is a result of a Senate Veterans Affairs & Emergency Preparedness Committee hearing last session where it was learned that the State Workers Insurance Fund (SWIF) is now denying coverage to these critical volunteers that are protecting our lives. Senate Bill 1221 was cosponsored by Senators Browne, Baker, Costa, Killion, Rafferty, Regan, Reschenthaler and Yudichak. |
