Subject: | Designating October 2018 as Elected Tax Collectors Month |
In the near future, I will be introducing legislation that recognizes the 60th Annual Convention of the PA State Tax Collectors’ Association and recognizes October 2018 as “Elected Tax Collectors Month” in Pennsylvania. Pennsylvania’s local government structure was established by William Penn. His Charter, from the King of England, permitted him to divide his land into counties, townships, cities and boroughs-units of government that existed in England. As proprietor of the Commonwealth, Penn nominated county justices to levy taxes and his vision for Pennsylvania provided for local tax collectors. That vision continues today as our system of elected Tax Collectors embodies government that is truly closest to the people. Elected Tax Collectors serve an important role in the communities that elect them - from providing personal attention to citizens in understanding the local taxation system to ensuring that senior citizens or persons with limited income avail themselves of local tax reductions. The PA State Tax Collectors’ Association was founded in 1958 to represent Tax Collectors in the Commonwealth. The Association has supported state laws which govern Tax Collectors by promoting high ethical standards and professionalism and providing continuing education. For these reasons, I believe it is important for the Senate of Pennsylvania to honor and recognize the PA State Tax Collectors’ Association and all the elected Tax Collectors for their service by dedicating the month of October 2018 as “Elected Tax Collectors Month” and recognizing their 60th Annual Convention. Therefore, I ask you to please join me in cosponsoring this resolution. |
