Session of 2017 - 2018 Regular Session

MEMORANDUM

Posted: August 22, 2017 02:49 PM
From: Senator Lisa M. Boscola
To: All Senate members
Subject: Increase the Limitation on Yearly Compensation for Local Registrar Office

In the near future, I intend to introduce legislation increasing the current limitation on the compensation in any one calendar year for the local registrar office.

Under current law, there is a $60,000 limitation on the compensation in any one calendar year. Once this cap is met, the local registrar must transfer all additional fees to the Department of Health which would deposit $4 to the Vital Statistics Improvement Fund and $4 to the General Fund. This proposal would increase this cap to $85,000.

Since many registrar positions have gone vacant, existing registrars are experiencing an additional work load and are not receiving any additional compensation for the hours they put in to keep up with increased requests.

Please consider joining me in co-sponsoring this legislation. It is a companion bill to HB 1259 of the 2017-18 session.
