Subject: | National Guard Day - May 10 |
Please join us in cosponsoring a resolution designating May 10, 2017, as "National Guard Day in Pennsylvania." In 1747, Benjamin Franklin formed the "Associators," the precursor to the PA National Guard. And in 1755, the General Assembly of the Province of Pennsylvania formally enacted its first militia law. The past 262 years have seen much cooperation and support from the General Assembly for the Pennsylvania militia, the Pennsylvania National Guard and the soldiers and airmen who proudly serve this Commonwealth and this nation. Today, Pennsylvania has one of the largest National Guard forces in the nation and our Guard is one of the Commonwealth's top ten employers. On May 10th, the PA Department of Military & Veterans Affairs and the PA National Guard will come to the Capitol to highlight their importance to the Commonwealth through displays in the East Wing Rotunda and a morning presentation for legislators. Adjutant General Anthony Carrelli will address both the House and the Senate on the occasion. Please join us in supporting the National Guard by signing onto this resolution. In 2015, Senate Resolution 257 was sponsored by Senators Vulakovich, Costa, Argall, Aument, Baker, Bartolotta, Brewster, Brooks, Dinniman, Eichelberer, Farnese, Folmer, Fontana, Gordner, Greenleaf, Hutchinson, Kitchen, Pileggi, Rafferty, Reschenthaler, Sabatina, Scavello, Schwank, Teplitz, Ward, White, Yudichak. If you have any questions, please contact Nate Silcox in Sen. Vulakovich's Office at 717-787-6538. |
