Senate of Pennsylvania
Session of 2017 - 2018 Regular Session

MEMORANDUM

Posted: March 6, 2017 12:49 PM
From: Senator Camera Bartolotta
To: All Senate members
Subject: Community Action Month Resolution

In the near future, I will introduce a resolution recognizing May 2017 as “Community Action Month” in Pennsylvania.

Community Action agencies are nonprofit organizations established under the federal Economic Opportunity Act of 1964 as part of America's War on Poverty.

Presently, there are approximately 1,100 Community Action agencies serving the poor in every state as well as Puerto Rico and the Trust Territories, and 43 of these agencies are located in Pennsylvania. For 52 years, they have enhanced the lives of people throughout every county in the Commonwealth by providing essential, life-changing services and opportunities such as affordable housing, economic development, health care, energy assistance, natural disaster relief and recovery. Community Action statistics underscore a positive impact these agencies have had on our local neighborhoods.

Despite shrinking resources and increased demands for services during these challenging economic times, Community Action in Pennsylvania has been remarkably successful in assisting low-income veterans, senior citizens, families, children and students to achieve and maintain economic security.

For these reasons, I ask you to join me in co-sponsoring this resolution.
