Subject: | Property Tax Exemption for Surviving Spouses of those Killed in Action |
Please join me in co-sponsoring a bill that will amend the state constitution to extend the state’s property tax exemption program for disabled veterans to the surviving spouse of a soldier killed in action. Currently, the program’s guidelines allow the property tax exemption to be transferred to the surviving spouse of a totally disabled veteran when he or she passes away, but it does not allow the exemption to be given to spouses of those killed in action. This bill will correct this inequity by extending the property tax exemption to deserving widows and widowers of those soldiers and airmen killed in action. Last session this bill was introduced as Senate Bill 1109 and was co-sponsored by Senators Vulakovich, Greenleaf, Rafferty, Bartolotta, Blake, Tomlinson, Schwank, Fontana, Costa, Scarnati, Tartaglione, Brewster, Alloway, Vogel, Leach, White and Browne. Thank you for your consideration. |
