MEMORANDUM

Posted: January 10, 2017 12:01 PM
From: Senator Lisa Baker
To: All Senate members
Subject: Expanding the Property Tax Exemption for Disabled Veterans

Please join me in co-sponsoring a bill that proposes a constitutional amendment to extend the property tax abatement program to all income-eligible, totally disabled veterans, regardless of whether they served in the military during a time of officially declared war.

Over the years, my office has heard from many 100 percent disabled veterans who have been deemed ineligible for the state’s property tax relief program because their military service fell outside a specified time range. This bill will extend the property tax exemption to all members of the military who are totally disabled as a result of serving in the armed forces of the United States.

This legislation was Senate Bill 371 of last session and was co-sponsored by Senators Vulakovich, Greenleaf, Blake, Fontana, Brewster, Costa, Scarnati, Bartolotta, Tartaglione, Alloway, Rafferty, Vogel, Leach, White, Yudichak and McGarrigle.

Thank you for your consideration.

Introduced as SB389
