| Please join us in cosponsoring a resolution designating March 2016 as "American Red Cross Month" in Pennsylvania. Today's Red Cross is a volunteer-led humanitarian organization that provides relief to victims of disasters and helps our citizens prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies. In fiscal year 2015, the Red Cross responded to 2,479 disasters statewide and 4,111 families were assisted financially statewide. 7,252 volunteers operated statewide. The Red Cross demonstrated its vital role in emergency response during the recent snow and ice storms in 2014 and 2015 and the American Red Cross partnered with the Pennsylvania State Police to support three feeding sites, twenty-four hours a day for forty-eight days providing more than 65,000 meals and over 1.3 million snacks for first responders during the Commonwealth’s largest man hunt ever. The Red Cross also trains people in CPR, AEDs, first aid, and water safety, and provides hundreds of thousands of units of blood each year to victims in need. In 2015, approximately 225,000 people were trained in Pennsylvania. Last year, SR 31 was sponsored by Senators Vulakovich, Baker, Alloway, Argall, Aument, Bartolotta, Blake, Boscola, Costa, Dinniman, Farnese, Fontana, Gordner, Greenleaf, Haywood, Hughes, Kitchen, Mensch, Pileggi, Rafferty, Schwank, Smith, Tartaglione, Teplitz, Ward, White, Wozniak, and Yudichak.
