MEMORANDUM

Posted: February 22, 2016 05:56 PM
From: Senator Patrick M. Browne
To: All Senate members
Subject: District Attorney Justice Fund

In the near future, I will be reintroducing legislation that amends Title 18 (Crimes & Offenses) establishing a District Attorney Justice Fund to be administered by the District Attorney in each county within the Commonwealth.

The funds of the District Attorney Justice Fund are appropriated on a continuing basis to the county District Attorney, with the funds being available for law enforcement agencies for the purpose of providing criminal justice enhancements.

The funds shall be used for the enhancement of local criminal justice systems policies, work processes, and information sharing and distribution which may include:
  • Homeland security activities;
  • Victim and witness services;
  • Information sharing between municipal police and county departments; and
  • Criminal justice process improvements.
The fund will not be dependent on tax-payer dollars and will be funded totally by criminal offenders.

Co-sponsors of the legislation from last session were Senators Scarnati, Costa, Baker, Rafferty and Yudichak.
