Subject: | Agriculture Exemption of Sales and Use Tax |
In the near future, I plan to introduce legislation intended to enhance the viability of agricultural operations in this Commonwealth, and assist in preserving the farm family and the entire farm operation. My legislation proposes to exclude building materials used for the construction or repair of animal production buildings from our sales and use tax, thus lowering building costs and helping our producers to be more competitive and improve long-term viability. Many of our neighboring states already employ this exclusion, currently placing our farmers at a competitive disadvantage. It is estimated that the total tax liability would be less than $4.2 million annually. This proposal was introduced as Senate Bill 582 of the 2013-2014 session by Senator Mike Brubaker and was cosponsored by Senators KASUNIC , YAW, KITCHEN , VOGEL, SMUCKER, VULAKOVICH , BROWNE , SCHWANK, WHITE , ERICKSON , ALLOWAY, WAUGH , MENSCH , HUTCHINSON, BAKER , SOLOBAY , WASHINGTON and BOSCOLA If you have any questions regarding this legislation, please contact Stephanie Buchanan at 717-787-4420 or sbuchanan@pasen.gov. |
