Senate of Pennsylvania
Session of 2015 - 2016 Regular Session

MEMORANDUM

Posted: March 2, 2015 03:45 PM
From: Senator Randy Vulakovich
To: All Senate members
Subject: Study of Salaries and Benefits for State Board and Commission Members

In the near future I plan to introduce a Resolution to study the Commonwealth Board and Commission members’ salaries, compensation, and fringe benefits, such as healthcare and pensions. The Budget situation for the Commonwealth is very dire, given the 2 billion dollar deficit we face and growing financial obligations, we must look everywhere we can for savings.

It is my understanding there are over 250 Independent and Departmental Boards and Commissions. While these Boards and Commissions provide the Commonwealth with great services, it is important we have an account of what the members are receiving in compensation and benefits. It is an honor to be asked by the Governor to serve the people of Pennsylvania on a Board or Commission. Serving on a Board or Commission should not be viewed as an extra pay check, especially if the post is part-time. It is my hope this study provide the General Assembly with some guidance on cost savings and cause legislation to make the appropriate and necessary reform measures.

Should you have any questions please feel free to contact Charlie O’Neill (717-787-6538) in my office.
