Subject: | PA Dream Act |
In the near future, I plan to reintroduce SB 713, legislation based on the Maryland Dream Act, which provides undocumented students the opportunity to continue their education. The Maryland legislature approved this measure in 2011 and then it upheld overwhelmingly in a ballot referendum in the November 2012 election. Under this proposal, eligible individuals must offer proof of having attended at least two years of high school and must meet all Commonwealth residency requirements for financial aid. If admitted to college, the students would then be charged the lower in-state tuition rate. More than a dozen states have adopted some version of a Dream Act in recent years. If you have any questions regarding this legislation, please contact Matt Parido (mparido@pasen.gov). |
