Subject: Tax Me More Fund (Previously SB 324)
 
I plan to reintroduce my “Tax Me More Fund,” previously Senate Bill 324, cosponsored by Senators D. White and Eichelberger.

This legislation is modeled after a 2001 Arkansas law: the "Tax Me More Fund," which was offered as an alternative to tax increases and budget cuts in that state.

This proposed legislation is consistent with SB 7 (the “Taxpayer Protection Act”) and ongoing efforts to control state spending, which I continue to believe is a key to cutting taxes. Taxes hurt job creation and squeeze taxpayers – especially the middle class.

The “Tax Me More Fund” is for those who do not share the goal of controlling taxes, spending, or borrowing by allowing them to make voluntary contributions to their favorite programs and initiatives. “Put your money where your mouth is” by sending a check to the State Treasury.

While Arkansas’ “Tax Me More Fund” collected just a few thousand dollars, it did give citizens of that state the opportunity to both say “tax me more” and to be the first to send money.
