Senate of Pennsylvania
Session of 2013 - 2014 Regular Session

MEMORANDUM

Posted: December 7, 2012 10:20 AM
From: Senator Edwin B. Erickson
To: All Senate members
Subject: EMT Benefits

I plan to re-introduce Senate Bill 257 of 2011. This legislation will provide emergency medical personnel who are employed by hospitals the same state paid death benefits other emergency responders would receive if they are killed in the line of duty while responding to an emergency call pursuant to an agreement to provide emergency service coverage for a political subdivision. Similar benefits are paid to the survivors of firefighters, rescue squad personnel, police officers, members of the National Guard and the State Police. The bill was requested by hospital EMTs who now provide emergency service coverage in many municipalities.

Introduced as SB289
