Senate of Pennsylvania
Session of 2013 - 2014 Regular Session

MEMORANDUM

Posted: December 4, 2012 04:04 PM
From: Senator Lisa M. Boscola
To: All Senate members
Subject: Senior Citizen's property tax freeze

In the near future, I plan to reintroduce my senior citizen’s property tax freeze legislation that would prohibit any political subdivision from imposing any increase in property taxes on residents who:

  • are age 65 or older,
  • have lived in their homes for at least five years, and
  • make less than $65,000 annually.

Until local school districts can limit increases to residents’ local property tax bills, my legislation will aim to provide real tax relief to the older Pennsylvanians who are hardest hit by rising property taxes.

This is a reintroduction of Senate Bill 645 from the previous legislative session. Co-sponsors included Senators BROWNE, FONTANA, BREWSTER, SOLOBAY, RAFFERTY AND ARGALL.

Introduced as SB484
