Subject: | Sampling and Testing Technology Available to the Oil and Gas Industry |
In the very near future, I will introduce a resolution declaring it to be in the interest of the citizens of Pennsylvania for the Department of Environmental Protection to make use of the available technology to preserve clean drinking water, guarantee public safety, and minimize environmental impacts associated with Pennsylvania’s production of oil and natural gas - at a reasonable, sustainable, and efficient methodology and cost to the industry. Currently, hand-held technology is commercially available to the oil and natural gas industry for sampling and testing purposes. Pennsylvania’s oil and gas production activities use both conventional and unconventional drilling methods in the production of oil and natural gas; these activities impact naturally occurring radioactive materials, as well as technologically enhanced naturally occurring radioactive materials. This technology would help the oil and gas industry expedite sampling and analysis processes with means for accurate onsite sample collection and material testing for radiation that satisfies Federal and State regulations. If you have any questions about this resolution, please contact Max Flessner in my office at mflessner@pasenate.com or 717-787-5839. I hope you'll join me in co-sponsoring this important resolution. |
