Subject: | Equal opportunity to obtain Special Occasion liquor permits |
I will shortly introduce legislation amending the Liquor Code to allow special occasion permits to be issued to non-profit corporations whose purpose is to promote neighborhood architectural preservation. Many communities are struggling to preserve their historic neighborhoods against the combined impacts of increasing age and tax burdens and declining economies and property values. Neighborhood groups organized as non-profit corporations are an important resource to municipalities and local officials in this effort, and community events organized by the groups are an important source of revenue and support for the organizations. However, the Liquor Code currently allows special occasion permits to be issued to such organizations only in boroughs and second-class townships. My legislation would remove the limitation, allowing permits to be issued without regard to municipal class, i.e. in any city, township or borough. Please join me in giving equal treatment to historic preservation opportunities in all municipalities. |
