Senate of Pennsylvania
Session of 2013 - 2014 Regular Session

MEMORANDUM

Posted: October 3, 2013 04:26 PM
From: Senator David G. Argall
To: All Senate members
Subject: Amendment to Remove Restrictions on Potato Packaging in Pennsylvania

In the near future, I will be introducing legislation that would provide potato packagers with the opportunity to package potatoes without any weight restrictions.

Currently, potatoes must be packaged in containers for sale weighing 3, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 50, 100 and multiples of 100 pounds. My legislation seeks to provide potato packagers with the opportunity to meet the demands of retailers and package potatoes at a weight of their choosing.

My goal is to cut the bureaucratic red tape facing the potato farmers in Pennsylvania and allow them to meet the demands of their retail partners and consumers by eliminating this onerous restriction.

Please contact Jon Hopcraft of my office at 787-2637 or at jhopcraft@pasen.gov with any questions.

Introduced as SB1131
