Subject: | Lottery Winnings and Individual Income Tax Refunds as Restitution |
Earlier this year, the Restitution in Pennsylvania Task Force issued a report regarding the level of restitution collections in the Commonwealth. In seeking to maximize reimbursement of financial losses to crime victims, the task force made a number of recommended changes to state law. In the near future, I plan to introduce two pieces of legislation recommended by the task force to increase restitution collection. All too often, victims of crimes must wait long periods of time for court ordered restitution to be paid to them. Many times the victim is never made whole. My bills would allow both lottery winnings and individual income tax refunds to be intercepted to fulfill any outstanding court ordered restitution payments to victims. |
Introduced as SB1017
Description: | My first bill would authorize court ordered restitution to be satisfied from payments to winners of Pennsylvania Lottery prizes. |
