Senate of Pennsylvania
Session of 2013 - 2014 Regular Session

MEMORANDUM

Posted: April 3, 2013 02:44 PM
From: Senator Richard L. Alloway, II
To: All Senate members
Subject: Reduction of the length of each term members of the Pennsylvania Game Commission's Board of Commissioners may serve

In the near future, I plan to introduce legislation that will amend Title 34 (GAME) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated Statues to reduce the length of each term for members of the Pennsylvania Game Commission's Board of Commissioners, while allowing for multiple terms of continued service.

The legislation will provide for new terms of four years in length with the opportunity for additional terms through appointment by the Governor and approval of the Senate.

Currently, a game commissioner's term of service is eight years following appointment by the Governor and approval of the Senate. A commissioner may serve up to an additional six months when a replacement has not been appointed and approved by the Senate. A member who fills a vacancy of less that four years is eligible for reappointment to a full term. A member who serves a full eight year term, or fills a vacancy for more than four years, is not eligible for re-appointment for a period of eight year.

This legislation removes the specific limitations on service, allowing for multiple four-year terms of continuous service. Vacancies may still be filled for partial terms.

This legislation will provide for added oversight of the agency through greater control of commissioner's terms by the Executive and Legislative Branches.
